Our program is for young leaders with a genuine interest and curiosity in the subject material of their preferred academic session. YYGS emphasizes an open, exploratory, and collaborative approach to learning, and students experience learning in a variety of different university contexts, from large faculty lectures to small seminars.
Participants have the opportunity to meet like-minded peers from arond the world, all while experiencing life as a university student. Students attend lectures and seminars, relax on Yale’s four-acre historic green, and reside in the same rooms as college freshman on Old Campus.
YYGS is one of the only pre-college programs in the world that provides need-based financial aid equally to both domestic and international students, which is offered as a tuition discount (up to $6,500 USD, 100% of tuition). Students with demonstrated financial need are encouraged to apply for YYGS need-based financial aid.
We are happy to provide accomodations for specific dietary needs or restrictions, including food allergies and religious observances. Yale Dining Services can accommodate most dietary restrictions. We have also worked with Yale Conferences & Events to arrange physical accomodations for participants.
YYGS wasn’t a typical experience for me whether before, at, or after the program. When I first applied, I was accepted to Applied Science and Engineering (ASE), and I was so glad and proud that I could make to such a competitive and prestigious summer program.
Before YYGS, I always wanted to help others, but I never believed that my small contributions could seriously alleviate global challenges. Now I know that I have the capacity and desire to incur deep-seated and everlasting impacts on the world that fundamentally improves the lives of others
The environment at YYGS really did make me come out of my shell. Public speaking and debating aren’t things we’re used to at my school; it sort of felt like I had gone from walking to running in my speaking abilities and it was a bit hard to get my points across at first, but, in the end, I actually mustered up the courage to do a solo-talk!
